ABOUT ME
My name is Elvira, I went to Art school In Italy and soon afterwards continued my artistic studies in Textiles Restoring field in Florence where I qualified back in the 1990's, and later studied Textile's Analysis Recognition and Cataloguing. I was particularly intrigued by the versatility and potential of natural fibres and how they responded when they were exposed to a variety of stimulation and manipulation.
I started my career as a Textile and Tapestry History Teacher, teaching as well Restoration Techniques of Textile,Tapestry and Rugs. Alongside to my teaching I began as a freelance textile restorer working from my own studio. I was moving around my working schedule between Naples and Rome; Rome at that time was very artistically fervent and open to new artistic and cultural exchange with some of the less recognised, but highly artistic, small community around the globe.
During my permanence in Rome I attended several Textiles Art Exhibitions and Textiles Lectures. I learned about the many traditional handwoven fabrics made by small minority tribes around the world. I was especially attracted by the East African Fabric Artefacts: " The Kuba Kingdom Textiles of Congo", on which I started my own private collection.
In 2005 I moved to London and I embarked in a totally new career, but my passion for textiles remained very hight. London was the perfect place for enriching my personal textiles collection as the multicultural and artistic trading market in london is very prolific; you will go to find on this website a selling page of some of the products from my own collections.
London was also a very inspirational place for developing my creativity and continue my love for painting, which was born when I was at art school, some of my new painting are part of my collections. The Style of my painting is contemporary and the technique I'm using it's called 'liquid painting' or 'pour painting' made with acrylic colours.
I still remember the feeling of when the first time I visited one of the many London's exhibitions about materials used for knitting and stitching like wool, cotton and natural fibres. The explosion of colours and the smell of the materials, made me feel like 'Alice in the Wonderland'.
Throughout that experience I discovered The intrinsic potential of Felt. Felt is 100% wool and is a really eco-friendly alternative to other materials.
The items I'm proposing in this website are the result of a combination of all my passions: natural materials, colours, painting and tribal arts.
All of my products are for this reason particular and unique. I can offer also personalised articles.
